Q: I have small traditional Locs and I’m not sure what size tool to purchase. Can you give me some advice, as my Locs are quite small?
Please refer to the picture on the Loc Size Comparison link. Use the size of the small finger as a guide against the size of Loc or even a tape measure. Microlocs are generally very small, so the small Loc-Key tool may not be appropriate if you have small traditional Locs.
Q: Do you provide instructions on how to start the Locs?
The Loc-Key tool is recommended for professional use, however it can be used to maintain Locs started from twists or plaits. Desired end results will vary according to an individual's hair texture, partings, Loc size, stability and maturity of the Locs. In our experience, professionally installed Locs will give the best foundation for you to work from.
Q: Will you be holding any classes showing how to use the Loc-Key tool?
If we decide to hold classes the dates and cost will be posted on this site.
Q: I already have Locs (micro, small, traditional) where can I find instructions for maintenance with a tool?
We provide instructions for a basic tool locking method. However, if you already have Locs and they were not started with a tool, we recommend you seek professional advice. Switching from one locking method to another can cause weakness on the Loc if the hair is not properly prepared at root level.
Q: I have very soft hair and I've tried to lock my hair using twists but it keeps coming undone. Would the Loc-Key tool work for me?
The Loc-Key tool is excellent for any hair type. However, we have found that tightly textured hair locks quickest and works best when forming Locs without the addition of products.
Q: My hair is relaxed, how much natural hair will I need before I can start locking with the Loc-Key tool?
Firstly - DO NOT CUT OFF YOUR RELAXER!!! With the Loc-Key tool you can start locking from your new growth. You only need two inches of natural hair to start. You'll have to go through a transition process, but over time your natural texture will begin to take over and your Locs will become more defined.
Q: I have very thick hair, but I want my Locs to be small, which tool should I purchase?
The size of Loc-Key tool you choose should be determined by the size of Locs you want. If you are seeking a micro look, your partings will need to be smaller, hence giving you Microlocs. For the larger looking Locs, don't go any larger than an inch square per parting, otherwise the Loc size may become too big.
Q: You recommend professional use, does this mean I cannot do my locks myself?
How your Locs are installed is down to personal choice. It is possible to start your Locs using braids, twists, palm rolling etc. We recommend installation by a professional loctician as, in our opinion, this will give you the best foundation prior to self maintaining. The Loc-Key tool is also great for people who know how to lock or have been instructed in the process.
Q: How do I calculate the price of the Loc-Key Tool in my local currency?
PayPal will calculate your local currency automatically. All you have to do is go through the payment process and PayPal will calculate the price of the Loc-Key Tool and the Postage and Package fee giving you the total in your local currency. At this stage you can either go directly to checkout to purchase the Loc-Key Tool or cancel the payment process.
